New Moon in Cancer: Your sacred home Amidst the World's Unrest.
Today, June 25th, 2025, the New Moon graces the intuitive waters of Cancer at 4 degrees, forming a conjunction with benevolent Jupiter. This celestial embrace is a profound invitation to come home or redefine what that is. When the Cancer energy is active we long for our soulfamily, roots. When Jupiter expands the Sun and Moon energy within us we can expect to learn something new about this energy. This is a moment of setting intentions for expansive emotional growth, profound healing, and a sense of security and belonging. I can look at these energies in a global and personal perspective. In this blog I will do a bit of both.
I am not so much into political astrology, but today, it feels impossible to ignore the cosmic reflection in our earthly affairs. As you know, our little country, The Netherlands, is at the center of global attention today, hosting the NATO meeting in The Hague, where world leaders, including President Trump, are present. Our former Prime Minister Mark Rutte is hosting it all, and apparently, even King Willem-Alexander's palace is providing a bed for Mr. Trump.
This context makes this New Moon cycle particularly significant for Europe as a whole. Cancer, the sign of the crab, instinctively seeks to protect its shell and wants to keep its family together. This lunation emphasizes our collective need for security, roots, and nurturing, especially amidst global shifts.
The New Moon's harmonious sextile to Mars in Virgo offers the practical blueprint for these heartfelt intentions. This is your cosmic green light for well-discerned action plans and attention to detail. It is time to organize our collective and individual efforts with disciplined precision to bring our aspirations for security and stability into tangible reality.
However, this profound potential for new beginnings comes with challenges. The square to Saturn in Aries conjunct Neptune creates a friction that requires significant work. This aspect points to tension and a necessary integration regarding boundaries, discipline, and the often-blurry lines between reality and idealism. Strengthening country boundaries and walls, both literal and metaphorical, might feel difficult at this time. Saturn, though in its fall in the fiery sign of Aries, is in a much more active and direct position than it was during its recent transit through Pisces. After the challenging Saturn-Pluto conjunction and the years that followed, this is a cycle for reestablishing structures, clarifying boundaries, and uniting while also taking radical responsibility for our own nations, rather than depending solely on external allies.
When you observe the news in any country, you can clearly notice these invisible lines and ancient connections with other cultures and lands. Be mindful that the daily news we consume is never a neutral reflection of global events. It's filtered through the lens of a nation's history, its geopolitical interests, its economic dependencies, its cultural affinities, and the composition of its own society. These "invisible lines and ancient connections" are indeed powerful forces shaping what makes headlines and what fades into the background. So, Esther, be mindful what you consume. Choose yourself what you want to be exposed to and how you allow it to affect you.
At the time of this new moon I felt called to look into the etymology of my own name, Esther Engelen, at this time. Your name is your energetic blueprint, just like your astrology chart with the location of the sun moon and planets in the sky at the moment of your birth. It can offer clues to past life energies ingrained in the frequency of the name you carry. When you say your own name out loud, it can trigger something. At least, it did for me. Just observe what it means for you. What emotions come up.
The Cancer energy teaches us to be nurturing and truly present in the moment. Infused with Jupiter here, it will expand your perception of where you are, encouraging you to go deeper within instead of seeking expansion through external travel. Jupiter, infused with the Moon and Sun energy in Cancer, an expansion of your emotional depth and inner security, a different kind of growth than Jupiter in Sagittarius for example, which seeks outward exploration. It’s about opening up a new perception of your inner self, expanding your very being. Clearly it has to do with connecting to your roots in the sign of the moon. You might plan a future trip that does just that, to expand a part of awareness of yourself. Music is an amazing way to bring clues on where your past life roots lie.
Today, I will end this New Moon message with a beautiful poem by Jeff Foster, to meditate on. This book has become an important practice for me over the years. I see him as one of my favorite teachers of this Cancer energy – the feminine energy. Still undervalued but so necessary to understand in Western societies for a more balanced life. I hope you enjoy it!
From the Book: Falling in Love with Where You Are
‘Time Travel’
There is no such thing as a thought from the past.
Who we really are does not travel into the past in thought.
A thought about the past, a memory, an image, arises in the present.
A thought about the future, a dream of what may or may not happen,
the imagination of a plan, does not happen in the future, it happens, here now.
Past and Future do not happen in the past or future
they arise here, where you are
Just as a movie set in the past does not cause the movie screen
to travel into the past.
This moment is not really a moment separate from any other moment at all.
It is not a sliver of time between a separate past and future moment.
This moment is the vast field where stories of past and future arise and fall,
where dreams are born and die, where thoughts, sensations,
sounds, smells, feelings, all rise and dissolve, leaving no trace.
This moment is vast and timeless and holds everything
Since the words ´moment´and ´movement´ come from the same root (Latin, movere)
it may be better to call this the present movement of life.
The movement of thoughts, sensations, feelings.
The movement of past and future.
And what is aware of all this movement?
That which never moves.
That which you truly are.
In the midst of all the movement of life,
the total stillness of You.
